October Foodie Events

Scary suppers, mysterious culinary tours, and an eccentric food scientist haunt Des Moines this October. Here are a few October foodie events you might want to check out:

Des Moines Social Club Dark Dinner – Oct. 31

For an extra spooky Halloween, try Des Moines Social Club’s newest social experiment: eating in the dark. Guests will be blindfolded for the entire meal! Sean Wilson of Proof Restaurant provides a 3-course meal guaranteed to ‘heighten your senses.’

Better Homes and Gardens Cooking Experience – October 10-11

Peek inside the Better Homes and Garden’s test kitchens and learn some cooking tips from the masters themselves. You’ll walk away with some kitchen tools, a full belly, and an amazing experience.

Farmcrawl– October 5

If you’re itching to see some fall color and farms, take a ride though seven south-central farms’ open houses from 11:00 am – 5:00pm. Each farm has a specialty including dairy farms, apple orchards and pumpkin patches. Enjoy special guests and goodies throughout your trip.

Osteria Centro – Oct. 25

After a successful spring Osteria series, Centro brings back their $30, four-course meal in rustic Italian dining style. The menu features antipasti, ricotta cavatelli with Sunday sugo, Sicilian braised beef with roasted vegetables and a chocolate tart with hazelnuts for dessert.

Alton Brown Live – Oct. 29

Food Network star Alton Brown hosts his “Edible Inevitable tour” at the Civic Center. The show includes comedy, food and live music as part of Brown’s quirky food show.

Des Moines Farmers Market – Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25

Des Moines original ‘foodie event’ comes to a close on Oct. 25. Stop by and stock up your fall vegetables and winter supplies before it’s to late!
